I have always been a dancer. An artist. Technique never mattered until recently. My mom has old recorded footage of me dancing as a child. Sure; I look back at it and cringe a little. But I also take notice of how much I tried! Nothing stopped me from trying and dancing my heart out. I didn't care about how I danced or who was watching me. And I didn't need music.
So who is Siya Sankhe ?
What is my story?
I started ballet at the age of 11 in Pune, Maharastra, India. Before that I had performed in Shiamak shows and was mostly exposed to hip-hop, bollywood and contemporary. (Well except for that one year when I did ballet- it wasn't really ballet? I don't know)
I had stopped my Shiamak dance classes because I was really ill and was admitted in the hospital. I actually had very low immunity and used to fall sick a lot. After a few months of recovery; one day my mom came up to me and said, " There is a new ballet academy in the area; do you wanna take a trial class?"
I immediately said yes.
So that's how it started; with one trial class at Pamtoes Academy. Something just clicked when I was introduced to the world of ballet and I knew it was something I wanted to do for the rest of my life.
Since then my journey has been filled with the most amazing experiences, thrilling performance opportunities, but also struggles, self-doubt and more.
